AI and Robotics Labs at the Undergraduate Robotics Laboratory, St. Bonaventure University

چکیده
We discuss six labs that present two contrasting approaches to AI robotics. The first four labs present the traditional, representation-based approach to designing behavior control algorithms for autonomous robots. Robots use an internal representation of the world plus a planning algorithm to guide behavior. The second two labs present a behaviorbased or reactive approach to managing robot behavior. Behavior is tied directly to sensor readings, eliminating the need for an internal representation of the world or a centralized planner.

متن کاملUsing Robotics to Motivate Learning in an AI Course for Non-Majors
This paper describes an undergraduate course in Artificial Intelligence aimed at students who are not Computer Science majors. A significant component of the course is a weekly laboratory in which students build and program simple vehicular robots. While the laboratory exercises are quite distinct from the topics discussed in class, they serve several important purposes. The lab provides a sett...

متن کاملUndergraduate AI Research at a Liberal Arts College: A Case Study in Mobile Robotics
Recent advances in inexpensive hardware and opensource software have transformed mobile robotics into a viable and exciting environment for undergraduate education and research in artificial intelligence. In this paper, we will describe one curricular model for successful independent student research with limited resources, and will demonstrate the results with a case study written by the under...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Laboratory Kit for Robotics Engineering Education
This paper discusses the development of a sequence of undergraduate courses forming the core curriculum in the Robotics Engineering (RBE) B.S. program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The laboratory robotics kit developed for the junior-level courses is presented in detail. The platform is designed to be modular and cost-effective and it is suitable for laboratory based robotics educat...
